The White Pine is a very large Pine tree that is native to the eastern part of North America, more specifically from Newfoundland west to Minnesota and southeastern Manitoba, and through the Appalachain mountains down to northern Georgia. It is considered the tallest tree in North America, with the tallest specimens reaching 160-180 feet. One such tree, known as the “Boogerman Pine,” has been measured at 187.5 feet tall. It is located in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, and it is the tallest tree that has been accurately measured in North America, east of the Rocky Mountains. It was measured by tape drop by the the Eastern Native Tree Society (ENTS).

The Fraser Fir was named after the Scottish botanist John Fraser (1750-1811), who explored the Appalachain Mountains during the late 1700’s. The Fraser Fir is often referred to as Southern Balsam or Souther Balsam Fir. It is not to be confused, however, with the Balsam Fir, which is an entirely different species. Though there are many similarities between the two trees, their growing regions do not overlap. In its local area, the Fraser Fir is also referred to as the “she balsam” because of the resin that seeps from blisters in its bark. This is in contrast to the Red Spruce, also known as the “he balsam,” which lacks such blemishes.
The Fraser Fir is a coniferous tree native to the Applachain Mountains, more specifically in eastern Tennessee, southwestern Virginia, and western North Carolina. Fraser Firs are a dense, attractive tree when young, with a pyramidal crown and horizontal branches; however, the tree does become more open with age. It is a close relative to the Balsam Fir and is very commonly used as a Christmas Tree. The Fraser Fir has a wonderful fragrance and appearance, and it retains its needles for a long time after being cut. Furthermore, the needles are quite soft and do not easily prick fingers when hanging Christmas ornaments. All these attributes make it an ideal specimen for use as a Christmas Tree. Home Products n’ More now offers a line of Fraser Fir Christmas Trees, which are cut to order and delivered right to your door–the perfect addition to your holiday and a great time saver.
