Ingredients:
1/2 C. shortening
1 C. sugar
1 C. unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp. baking soda
2 C. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 C. chopped raisins
3/4 C. chopped nuts
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add applesauce and mix until just combined. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt and spices. Sift flour mixture again. Add sifted flour mixture to ingredients in mixing bowl and stir until smooth. Add raisins and nuts. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet, spacing approximately 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool.

Ingredients:
1 C. butter
1-1/2 C. sugar
4 eggs (beat well)
6 C. flour
2 T. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 small can frozen orange juice
In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Cover with plastic wrap and chill 10 minutes. Roll into approximately 80 medium balls on greased pans. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-12 minutes. Do not over bake. Frost with a mixture of powdered sugar, orange extract and milk or cream. Sprinkle with decorative sprinkles.

1 C. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 C. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
water for dipping
sugar for dipping
Cream shortening, sugars, vanilla and egg. Add dry ingredients. Shape into walnut-sized balls. Dip top in water, then in sugar. Place sugar side up. Dent top with finger. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Remove to wire rack to cool.
