Watering Your Plants

Water is an essential part of what make our plants grow.  Without adequate water, most plants will stop growing, and eventually they may dry up and die.  In many parts of the country, seasonal droughts are not uncommon.  During the hot summer months of July and August, many of us will have to do some supplmental watering of our trees, shrubs, and other garden plants.  Watering the garden is usually done with sprinklers, which can be purchased to meet almost any need. You will want to consider the type of garden and plantings you have in order to pick the best way to water.  For watering a very large area, you may want to go with several overhead sprinklers to cover the most square footage.  For small landscaping areas, soaker hoses may be a good option.  And when watering, don’t forget to neglect potted plants!  Potted plants, hanging baskets, and even elevated planting areas such as raised beds will have the greatest needs for supplemental watering.
