Deer Whistles - Do They Really Work?

Deer whistles are somewhat like the proverbial “snake oil.”  How do you know if they really work?  When it comes to traditional air-operated deer whistles, the answer is simple: you don’t.  We’ve all seen these little contraptions in gas stations.  For a few bucks, you can buy the little plastic devices that mount to the front bumper of your car.  They claim to emit a noise that frightens deer away…but only once you car is traveling fast enough so that the wind blows through them.  Unless you want to cling to the hood of your car as it barrels down the road at 60 mph, you’ll never find out if these little things work!

But did you know that there’s a better option?  Home Products ‘n’ More offers the Hornet, an electronic deer whistle.  That’s right, electronic.  Meaning that it is wired into your vehicle’s electrical system, so it is operational all the time, regardless of wind speed.  It can be hotwired to run whenever your vehicle is running, or it can be wired through the headlights so it comes on when you turn your lights on.  The Hornet also comes with a toggle switch that can be mounted inside the car, on the front of your dash, so you can just flip it on whenever you want.  When the Hornet is on, you’ll know that it’s working, because it produces an audible, high pitched sound that alerts deer that you’re coming.

With the Hornet Electronic Deer Whistle, you’ll never again have to worry about whether your deer whistle is working.

Hornet Deer Avoidance System

If you have a deer whistle, you may wonder if it is working. Since you cannot get out on your hood to ride at 60 or 70 mph, you just have to have faith that it is in fact functional. And it may not working at all, since most of the debris you hit on the road is concentrated to the front section of your auto. If you have a Hornet, y0u will hear it if you are in your garage or parked near a building. You may even hear it if you roll your windows in the city following a semi truck. Be Safe Be Sure Use a Hornet.

Deer Avoidance

Several years ago I was traveling from Chicago, IL to Des Moines, IA. Just east of Davenport, IA there is a stretch of I-80 that the east and west lanes are separated by several hundred feet and the center is somewhat wooded. It was near dusk and a deer was running rapidly between the two lanes and began to come directly toward my auto until it was within about 300 or 400 feet of my auto and suddenly it turned abruptly toward the other lanes. I am of the opinion the Hornet Deer Whistle I was running at the time prevented a deer hit.
